In its own words, Mounty for NTFS is 'a tiny tool to re-mount write-protected NTFS volumes under Mac OS X 10.9+ in read-write mode.' The app uses the same principle to get NTFS write support but without making configuration changes in the fstab file. On April 12, 2011, it was announced that Ntfsprogs project was merged with NTFS-3G. NTFS-3g added TRIM support in version 2015.3.14.

This document outlines how to install the NTFS-3G driver on Mac OS X systems. This driver allows for Mac OS X (version 10.4 and later) to write to NTFS formatted drives.

2. A new window should open. Double click on Install NTFS-3G.

6. After the installation completes, click on Restart to reboot your computer and finish the installation.

There are three solutions which can write NTFS drive on macOS Big Sur:

1. Use NTFS for Mac software
2. Enable NTFS drive write support with Terminal
3. Format NTFS drive to exFAT/FAT32

Solution 2: Enable NTFS drive write support on macOS Big Sur with Terminal

Writing to NTFS drive with Terminal is totally FREE and works under all macOS versions, including macOS Big Sur.

By typing some commands at Mac Terminal, you can change the default setting to enable NTFS write support. But actually, this method is not as easy as it seems and is not recommended.

For common users, changing setting by Mac Terminal is too complex. To use Mac terminal, you must have a good knowledge of command lines, otherwise you are very possible to type wrong commands since you don't know what those commands mean at all. If you type wrong commands, it may cause unexpected harms to your Mac and data inside.

Step 2: After launching Terminal, type the command: sudo nano /etc/fstab to open the /etc/fstab file for editing nano text editor.
